Vrbo launched a Reserve Now, Pay Later feature on Wednesday, allowing travelers to book eligible vacation rentals with no upfront payment. The feature is live on Vrbo's website and will roll out to the Vrbo app over coming weeks.
The option is part of an Expedia Group fall product release covering more than 30 new and enhanced features across Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo. Expedia says the feature will help group planners confirm attendees, collect contributions, and manage stay costs.
Airbnb launched its Reserve Now, Pay Later option for U.S. domestic stays in August 2025 and expanded it globally in February. Airbnb charges guests the full amount seven days before the free cancellation window closes. The feature is available on listings with flexible, moderate, limited, or firm cancellation policies.
Vrbo's version appears more restrictive. The report notes Vrbo's option "gives guests less flexibility in when they can cancel without penalty" compared to Airbnb's approach.
